The Global March to Gaza (GMTG) calls for a peaceful passage and the release of detainees

June 11, 2025
Cairo, Egypt

The Global March to Gaza (GMTG) is pleased to receive the statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We have followed all the required protocols outlined in this declaration. In the two months leading up to the march, the organizers coordinated directly with Egyptian embassies in Spain, Switzerland, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Turkey, Greece, Portugal, Norway, the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Netherlands, and other countries, as well as with the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant local authorities, to formally request permission to carry out the march and ensure transparency at each stage.

We hope to provide any additional information that the Egyptian authorities may require to ensure that the march can continue peacefully toward the Rafah border.

We have received reports that numerous citizens from Germany, Switzerland, Spain, France, Turkey, Tunisia, and other countries have been detained or prevented by Egyptian authorities in Cairo, at airports, or other points of entry, as they attempted to join the Global March to Gaza—an international peaceful initiative

We urge the Egyptian authorities to release all those detained and to allow the participants of the march to enter the country, thus aligning with Egypt’s stated interest in ending the blockade and restoring stability at its border.

Egypt has repeatedly expressed concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the unsustainable conditions at the Rafah border crossing.

The Global March to Gaza has united thousands of people from more than 80 countries, and has inspired millions more around the world through a shared commitment to humanity. This is an urgent and moral response to forced starvation, bombings, and the suffering of more than two million people at the hands of the Israeli government.

We thank Egypt for hosting this historic and peaceful event in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
