Dos años de trabajo en pro de Palestina, de denuncia y esperanza, con ciencia, compromiso, coraje y ternura

A bit of history
Sunera Sadicali, a family doctor, wrote a poem in Swedish, which she published in Spanish on the NoGracias website on October 19, 2024, titled "Gaza: la Humanidad herida"Gaza: Wounded Humanity."
The shock it caused led to a proposal, within the SIAP (Primary Care Innovation Seminars) framework, to create an action group on Palestine.
Jonathan Unai offered to create the website, provided there was a commitment to maintain it.
To mark the second anniversary of Health Workers For Palestine, Spain (HW4PS), we asked Sunera Sadicali and Jonathan Unai for a statement.

Sunera Sadicali, October 19, 2026
On July 15, 2024, I emailed Juan Gérvas with this text: "What is happening in Palestine, with the massacre of the entire population that we are witnessing daily, breaks my heart." My question to you is, have you considered holding a digital meeting bringing together healthcare professionals who want to raise their voices for Palestine, to build a solid international movement?
I knew there was potential for mobilization in Spain, not only because of the White Tide movement but also because of SIAP (Seminarios de Innovación en Atención Primaria. Seminars of Innovation in Primary Care). All that was needed was to issue a call, and Juan has been fundamental with his contacts, perseverance, and blessed defiance. As always.
And here we are, two years after the beginning of Health Care for Palestine Spain, an incredible group of healthcare workers working in service of the most basic need: denouncing the genocide in Gaza.
In the long term, to be part of a movement to end the barbarity, to fight for justice, fundamental rights, and the liberation of the peoples of the world. It is our duty as healthcare professionals and an ethical principle to which we must adhere.
It is a journey, with an internationalist vision. The poem I wrote, "Gaza: la Humanidad herida", Gaza, Wounded Humanity, comes from the powerlessness, the rage, and the pain of witnessing such an atrocity, so vile and cowardly that it defies description. And after three years, the barbarity remains unpunished. The blood-stained sky, the festering wounds, the deliberate famine, continue. And we continue prescribing pills on demand, complaining, numb, within the ephemeral borders of comfort. Impunity persists. Doctors tortured, murdered by the cowardly state of Israel, which occupies every atom, every cell.
With this, I conclude and reaffirm that hope is our duty and obligation as individuals and healthcare professionals, the hope that allows us to continue fighting for dignity, justice, and the sanctity of life.

This project turns two today, the first two years of however many it takes until Palestine is free. I'm Jonathan, and I work in web development.
Over the years, I've lost count of the websites I've created, maintained, and updated, and I can say that hw4p.es is undoubtedly the most satisfying website I've created.
When I met Juan and the possibility of creating a website arose, the first thing I did was "threaten" him: if I was going to invest my time in creating the platform, it was because someone would be behind the scenes creating the content consistently and consistently over the long term. Juan assured me that wouldn't be a problem, and he certainly kept his promise.
The more days passed, the more posts and suggestions for changes came from Juan and Mercedes—a creative avalanche—and I was thrilled to see the site so vibrant, so frequently visited, and so necessary. It's not merely a website for denunciation; it's also a website of hope that shares the art, culture, and light that reaches us from Palestine.
And although everything we do for Palestine may seem small and insignificant compared to the monster we face, far from discouraging us, it motivates us to become even more involved and work to spread hope throughout our networks.
We will not stop talking about Palestine until Palestine is free, from the river to the sea.

Who are we?
Currently, we are a group of 21 healthcare professionals from various locations, coordinating and promoting actions in support of Palestine, in collaboration with hundreds of healthcare professionals and dozens of healthcare organizations.

When did we start?
On October 19, 2024, following the publication of a poem by Sunera Sadacali in NoGracias: "Gaza: Den Sårade Mänskligheten". "Gaza: La Humanidad Herida" ("Gaza: Wounded Humanity") and a webinar hosted by HW4P UK with Francesca Albanese, the idea arose to create a group in Spain and undertake a nationwide project. This is the origin.

What unites us?
Concern for the genocide of the Palestinian people, especially the torture and murder of civilians, with a focus on the healthcare sector. We work for human and professional dignity, for solidarity, and against impunity for Israel, the Palestinian genocide, the selective destruction of healthcare resources, and the murder of healthcare professionals in Palestine and Lebanon.

How do we work?
As a team, we transform ideas into actions, or proposals for actions.
We coordinate especially with international groups of healthcare professionals in solidarity with the healthcare sector in Palestine and Lebanon.

How are we funded?
All our work is voluntary, driven by commitment, free of charge, and out of love. Our knowledge and time are at the service of the Palestinian cause, and for small expenses, we have organized a "resistance fund" using our own money.

Do we have conflicts of interest?
Yes. We have a strong conflict of interest due to our personal and professional commitment to human dignity and solidarity.
We believe that suffering and preventable deaths are intolerable, and therefore we oppose wars in general and colonial wars in particular.
We write and speak so that we are understood, with rigor and compassion, knowing that speaking clearly (parrhesia) implies a commitment to the truth of what is said, a radical commitment, because it often puts us in danger.
We have no material or financial conflicts of interest. As a group, we are completely independent of any industrial, institutional, academic, scientific, political, labor, or other organization.
We strive to disseminate facts, writings, photographs, and documents that honestly seek the truth. However, if we make a mistake, we would appreciate it if you would point it out by writing to hcw4palestinespain@gmail.com.
