UNICEF spokesperson Ricardo Pires said that since the ceasefire agreement entered into force on October 11 in Gaza, an average of two children are being killed every day in the strip as a result of Israeli attacks.

Speaking during his weekly press briefing at the United Nations office in Geneva on Friday, Pires said that despite the ceasefire, a young girl was killed on Thursday in an Israeli airstrike on Khan Younis in southern Gaza, while seven children were killed the day before in Gaza City.

He added that since the truce came into effect, at least 67 children have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza, with dozens more injured, noting that this translates into an average of two child deaths per day since the ceasefire began.

He noted that UNICEF is carrying out large-scale interventions in Gaza, but that the current efforts remain insufficient, adding, “If the required aid and support had reached more quickly, we would have been able to do more.”

Pires also said that hundreds of thousands of children are living in tents and facing harsh winter conditions, explaining that children in Gaza spend nights without heating, insulation, or blankets, leaving them exposed to extreme cold.
