Gaza’s health sector suffers from critical deficit in medical supplies

Gaza’s health ministry has reported a catastrophic shortage of medical supplies, noting that 52 percent of essential medicines are out of stock.

In a statement on Sunday, the health ministry added that 71 percent of medical consumables and 70 percent of laboratory items are also completely out of stock in the Gaza Strip.

“As the need for medical interventions for the wounded and sick continues to rise, the crisis is worsening. Primary care, surgical procedures, intensive care, oncology, and hematology are among the services facing severe shortages of vital medicines,” the health ministry said.

“Departments including orthopedics, nephrology, dialysis, ophthalmology, general surgery, and intensive care also face dire challenges due to critical shortages of medical supplies,” the ministry added.

The ministry called for providing the Gaza Strip with its medical needs to ensure that specialized departments can continue operating effectively.”
