The youngest age group, 18-34 year olds, were the most likely to identify as Anti-Zionist (14%). Los más jóvenes, los más anti-sionistas.
Update. July 8, 2026. USA. Survey from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research
Jewish adults who identify as religiously Jewish are much likelier than nonreligious Jews to identify as Zionists. About 3 in 10 religiously Jewish adults say “Zionist” describes them “extremely” or “very” well, compared to 6% of religiously unaffiliated Jews.
30%, of Jewish adults say Israel has committed genocide, although about half, 49%, say it has not.
Among Jews with a religious affiliation, views on Israel’s recent military actions are far from uniform or uncritical. Only about half say Israel’s ongoing military operations in Gaza are justified.
About one-quarter believe Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, an accusation that’s been leveled by some human rights organizations and vehemently denied by Israel and the U.S. government.
But they are more supportive of Israel’s actions than secular American Jews. About 4 in 10 religiously unaffiliated Jews say Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians, and only about 2 in 10 see Israel’s current operations in Gaza as justified. The vast majority, 74%, say they are “not too” or “not at all” emotionally attached to Israel, a sharp contrast from other Jewish adults.
About one-third of U.S. adults general population believe that Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians during the war in Gaza, About 2 in 10 Americans say Israel has not and the rest, about half, don’t know enough to say.

JFNA Survey Finds Just 37% of Jewish Americans Identify as Zionists
Theodore Sasson 17 February, 2026
The Jewish Federations of North America released its survey of Jewish Americans last week. Much of the commentary on the survey has focused on the seemingly small share of respondents who identified as Zionist—just 37%. 8% identified as Non-Zionists and 7% as Anti-Zionists. The largest share of respondents, 48%, identified with none of those labels. The survey was conducted in March of 2025, as reports of worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza were gaining traction.
Since surveys of Jewish Americans rarely ask whether they identify as Zionists, it is unclear whether the figure for those who embrace the label is low. In most surveys, respondents are asked their feelings and attitudes about Israel and not whether they identify as Zionists. In this respect, the JFNA survey found that 71% of respondents felt an emotional connection to Israel and 88% believed Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish and democratic state. These figures are in the ballpark of other surveys.
The survey’s most interesting findings were about how respondents understand the meaning of term “Zionism.” There is a broad consensus that it means “the right of the Jewish people to have a Jewish state.” Most Anti-Zionists and Non-Zionists, however, defined Zionism as also meaning “Israel has a right to the West Bank and Gaza Strip”; “supporting whatever actions Israel takes”; and “believing Jews are superior to Palestinians.” Respondents who identified as Zionists tended not to identify with these additional statements. This suggests that the share of respondents who identify with Zionism depends on the understanding of the term as much or more than it does than on actual support for Jewish nationhood.
Not surprisingly, the youngest age group, 18-34 year olds, were the most likely to identify as Anti-Zionist (14%) or Non-Zionist (18%). This is the age cohort that came of age during a succession of right wing governments in Israel, and that has been most exposed to the pro-Palestinian movement which has made “anti-Zionism” its core ideological commitment.
Israel and Jewish communal organizations will need to adjust to a sizeable (but not majority) segment of Jewish America’s younger generation that is hostile to or distanced from Zionism as a label and even from Israel.
NOTE
Zionism is a political ideology, of German influence, that developed in Europe at the end of the 19th century, amidst the rise of nationalism, the idea of “one people, one nation, one state” (in this case centered on Zion, ancient Jerusalem), the theory of evolution, the notion of race, and eugenics.
Zionism views Jews as a race, not as a religious or cultural group, and therefore goes against Jewish history. For Jews who oppose Zionism, the role of statehood (Israel) runs counter to their self-understanding of what it means to be Jewish.
Zionism is violent. Zionism is terrorist. Zionism is supremacist. Zionism is bloody. Zionism is racist. Zionism is sexist. Zionism is genocidal. Zionism is fanatical. Zionism is colonialist. Zionism is antisemitic.
Many Jews around the world are not Zionists.
The aim of Zionism was (and is) to create a newly defined Jew, a "national" Jew. One that is dependent on the physical trappings of land, language, and culture. But the Jewish people did not share any national characteristics, for Jews can be of any nationality, race, and multiple cultures.
Zionists went on to manufacture the national commonalities they needed their new Jewish identity to depend on. They nationalized our religion into a "culture," our Holy Land into a political entity, and our yearning for redemption into the pinnacle success of the Zionist dream.
These are all part of the social engineering project called Zionism.
Today, Zionists proudly call themselves "Jews." And boy, dare you criticize their actions, and you are suddenly a full-fledged "antisemite."
A Zionist state can never be democratic. Zionism is a political ideology that envisions the establishment of an ethnostate where Jews have more rights than Palestinians. This racist and violent ideology has always used the same blueprint. First, destroy the land and ethnically cleanse the people who live there. Then, colonize it and erase all traces of a Palestinian presence. The goal remains the same: To gain as much territory for the Israeli state, with as few Palestinians or Arabs on it, as possible.

Why anti-Zionism
The history, ideology and practice of Zionism leave us no choice but to resist - for all human rights’ activists,, humanists, non-patriarchal, feminist and anti-colonialists. There is no place for Zionism and its militarised settler colonialism, apartheid and genocide.
Zionism is a late-19th century colonial, racist ideology claimed as a solution to anti-Semitism in Europe. It chose violent settler-colonialism and imperial protection, through Western financial, military and political support. Zionism implemented its aims by colonization, military occupation, apartheid, dispossession, ethnic cleansing and genocide of the indigenous population of Palestine. The Zionist project claims its self-determination through violently denying such rights to the indigenous Palestinians; no colonialising group has such rights - no rights for the Western occupier and colonizer!
As Jewish anti-Zionists, we totally oppose Zionism - its theory, fake history, and violent, immoral and illegal practices. We oppose its hostile colonization of historical Judaism. We support the liberation of Palestine, the Return (Awda) of its refugees, and the building of a democratic, peaceful and just Palestinian polity with equal rights for all. Only the removal of Zionism and all its attributes will allow peace in the region.
We see ourselves as allies of the Palestinians in their liberation struggle for peace and historical justice, and for the removal of Western colonial vestiges. This struggle is an iconic one - “no one is free until Palestine is free”. This struggle requires organisation, international support, careful organisation and collective political spaces.
