A global network of lawyers and legal organisations has come together to file criminal complaints and investigate Israeli war crimes privately in courts around the world.

The coalition, named Global 195, will seek the arrest and prosecution of high-ranking Israeli officials including dual nationals who serve in the Israeli military.

It is being led by the UK-based legal charity International Centre for Justice for Palestinians, led by solicitor Tayab Ali, and will bring in lawyers from Malaysia, Turkey, Norway, Canada, Bosnia and the UK.

They will draw on alleged war crimes compiled in a shared library of evidence by the ICJP.

"We can no longer rely on the institutions that are supposed to hold war criminals responsible, so it's left to society," Mr Ali told The National on Tuesday. “Under international law, states have a duty to investigate and prosecute war crimes, yet these obligations have been systematically neglected. The launch of Global 195 is a necessary legal intervention to remedy this failure."

The group’s aim is to “bridge the gap” left by international institutions and state actors who are “failing” to prosecute Israel for alleged war crimes committed against Palestinians, a statement from the coalition said.

“Those responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza are subject to legal accountability and no longer have anywhere to hide.”

Una red global de abogados y organizaciones jurídicas se ha unido para presentar denuncias penales e investigar privadamente los crímenes de guerra israelíes en tribunales de todo el mundo.
La coalición, denominada Global 195, buscará el arresto y el enjuiciamiento de altos funcionarios israelíes, incluyendo a personas con doble nacionalidad que sirven en el ejército israelí. Está liderada por la organización benéfica británica International Centre for Justice for Palestinians, dirigida por el abogado Tayab Ali, y contará con la participación de abogados de Malasia, Turquía, Noruega, Canadá, Bosnia y el Reino Unido.
Se basarán en presuntos crímenes de guerra recopilados en un archivo compartido de pruebas por la CIJP. "Ya no podemos confiar en las instituciones que se supone deben responsabilizar a los criminales de guerra, por lo que la responsabilidad recae en la sociedad", declaró el Sr. Ali a The National el martes.
"Según el derecho internacional, los Estados tienen el deber de investigar y enjuiciar los crímenes de guerra; sin embargo, estas obligaciones se han descuidado sistemáticamente. La creación de Global 195 es una intervención legal necesaria para remediar esta deficiencia".
El objetivo del grupo es cerrar la brecha que dejan las instituciones internacionales y los actores estatales que no procesan a Israel por presuntos crímenes de guerra cometidos contra los palestinos, según un comunicado de la coalición.
Los responsables de crímenes de guerra y de lesa humanidad cometidos en Gaza están sujetos a responsabilidades legales y ya no tienen dónde esconderse.
