In opposition to the unlawful ban on Palestine Action, over 3,200 people have been arrested for holding signs as part of the Lift The Ban campaign, leading to a 660% rise in UK “terrorism” arrests in the year to end of September 2025.
On February 13th 2026, the High Court ruled that the proscription is unlawful on two grounds. Nobody was arrested that day despite around 150 people holding the same signs that had previously led to arrests. More than 550 people have been arrested since the ban was ruled unlawful.
The Divisional Court has now granted the government permission to appeal the Judicial Review ruling. It has also decided to “stay” the quashing of the proscription pending this appeal – meaning the proscription of Palestine Action remains in place for now.
The ban on Palestine Action must be lifted, and all charges and investigations into the 3,200 people who have been arrested under the Terrorism Act for allegedly supporting the group must be dropped.
Following intensive lobbying by representatives of the Israeli government and arms industry, such as Lord Walney who was dishonestly presented to the public as an ‘independent adviser’, domestic direct action group Palestine Action was unlawfully branded as a ‘terrorist organisation’ for trying to stop crimes against humanity and for exposing the British government’s complicity in genocide.
Yvette Cooper, now former Home Secretary, unlawfully introduced the ban after Palestine Action entered the RAF base at Brize Norton and spray painted two military planes red, shining a spotlight on the role of the British military in partnering Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people.
It is vital that our campaign succeeds – not just for Palestine Action but for democracy. Once the meaning of ‘terrorism’ is separated from campaigns of violence against a civilian population, and extended to include those causing economic damage or embarrassment to the rich, the powerful and the criminal, then the right to freedom of expression has no meaning and democracy is dead. If we let this go, the unions, climate and racial justice movements, or any other worthy cause will be next.
But the Government overreached itself, and the courts have deemed the ban unlawful. Our groups and movements are coming together like never before, finding unity under repression. By refusing to give into fear and by standing together, we will face down this assault on us all.
The objective of this campaign is to Lift the Ban on Palestine Action, i.e. for Palestine Action to be de-proscribed as a ‘terrorist organisation’, and for the UK to end its complicity in genocide.

NEW, 24 April 2026: More than 130 leading scholars and public figures are risking arrest under the Terrorism Act after writing an open letter to the Court of Appeal concerning Palestine Action. More than 1,500 members of the public have now joined them as signatories.
Sally Rooney, Greta Thunberg, and Judith Butler were among the first to put their names to the defiant declaration. The signatories are joined by artists and musicians including Lift The Ban arrestee, Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja, as well as Brian Eno and Nadine Shah.
The letter, dated 24th April 2026, simply reads: “We oppose genocide, we support Palestine Action.” and will be hand-delivered to the Court of Appeal on April 28th 2026.
In November 2025, Palestine action co-founder Huda Ammori brought a legal challenge to prove the ban unlawful. A panel of judges determined that Huda Ammori was right on two of four grounds; 1. The ban interferes with our human rights to freedom of assembly and expression, and 2. The Home Secretary didn’t follow her own policy when proscribing the group.
This proved that all arrests and legal implications that have resulted from the ban were unlawful, too. So why is it that the ban has not been lifted?
Nobody was arrested outside the Royal Courts on February 13th 2025, the day that the judgment over the Judicial Review was given, despite holding the same signs held by all those arrested throughout the campaign, and the Met Police did state that they would not be making arrests for holding these signs. But the courts have granted a “stay” on the ban, meaning it remains in place despite being proven unlawful. Since this was granted, the Met Police have made an embarrassing U-turn on their arrest policy and have gone on to further unlawfully arrest more than 550 people.
The courts must Lift The Ban on Palestine Action, and drop all charges and investigations into the more than 3,200 people who have been arrested under the Terrorism Act for allegedly supporting the group since the proscription came into effect. The UK Government must end its complicity in Israel’s genocide.
