On the surface, "All We Have" tells an ordinary story; a couple fall in love, get married, and have a baby.
But in the shadow of military occupation, nothing is ordinary in ‘how’ the story unfolds. DALYA, falls in-love with a freedom-fighter, SALEM, during a dawn raid. Now a fugitive, military forces indefinitely arrest Salem on their wedding night.
The couple then decide to start a family by smuggling sperm through prison- an act displayed through the magic of a songbird who contains the power of The Phoenix rising from ashes. DALYA's conception is successful but her delivery is interrupted by a checkpoint surrounding her by ‘guns pointing’ and ‘phones shooting’.
A decade later, they are finally reunited, but the trauma from SALEM's imprisonment becomes the film’s deepest wound; its violence does not end at the cell door, but continues inside him, reshaping his mind, tenderness, and place within his family.
Based on true events, this is a story of how life becomes art when time is weaponized against love, and of love's power to conquer and heal.

Director Statement
Cultural preservation through storytelling is critical to Palestinianian identity: we are one heart shattered into 11 million people spread across the globe. We carry the weight of intergenerational trauma, exile and dispossession as we struggle to find ways to speak our truth in a post truth world. At Hakwatieh Productions we simply wanted to tell our story to the world.
The film was inspired by the steadfastness of Palestinian Prisoners and their loved ones. The couple’s conception, which is nothing short of a miracle given that Salem is locked up in a high security military prison, is a nod to the tens of babies conceived by smuggling sperm from Israeli prisons. Dalya’s birth, surrounded by ‘guns pointing’ and ‘phones shooting’, is an acknowledgement to the tens of Palestinian babies born at military checkpoints.
"All We Have" weaves poetic verses into a rich tapestry of magic realism, stunning visuals, and poignant music to tell an ordinary love-story in extraordinary circumstances. This is a familiar Palestinian tale that the world needs to know.
Created by a team of diasporic Palestinian artists scattered around the world from Palestine to Australia to Turkey and North America, the project faced immense barriers with the rise of the genocide in Gaza. This film became a lifeline for our team, bringing resilience and hope as we wrestle with the unbearable reality of the ethnic cleansing of Palestine.
