How to photograph mourning with respect and tenderness
Foam (Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam) is proud to present Yawm al-Firak, Arabic for Day of Separation, the first solo exhibition by the Palestinian-Dutch photographer Sakir Khader. Since 2024, he has been the first Palestinian photographer selected to join the renowned photography collective Magnum Photos. Through his firsthand experiences in Palestinian occupied territories, Khader brings the viewer directly into the heart of the occupation. His images explore the fragile boundary between life and death.
In this exhibition, Khader gives a voice to seven young Palestinian men who were violently taken from life, and to their mothers who lost them. Through their stories and experiences, he reflects on farewells in times of occupation, conflict, war, and displacement. His images explore the fragile boundary between life and death.
About the artist
Sakir Khader (NL, 1990) studied journalism, media management, and communication. After working as a reporter and investigative journalist for outlets such as de Volkskrant, Brandpunt, and NOS op 3, he fully dedicated himself to documentary photography and film. His work, centred on the relationship between life and death in conflict areas, has been awarded prestigious prizes, including the Silver Camera award.

Foam (Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam, Países Bajos) se enorgullece de presentar Yawm al-Firak, Día de la Separación en árabe, la primera exposición individual del fotógrafo palestino-holandés Sakir Khader. Desde 2024, ha sido el primer fotógrafo palestino seleccionado para formar parte del renombrado colectivo fotográfico Magnum Photos. A través de sus experiencias de primera mano en los territorios palestinos ocupados, Khader lleva al espectador directamente al corazón de la ocupación. Sus imágenes exploran la frágil frontera entre la vida y la muerte.
En esta exposición, Khader da voz a siete jóvenes palestinos que fueron arrebatados violentamente de la vida, y a sus madres que los perdieron. Sobre el artista
Sakir Khader (NL, 1990) estudió periodismo, gestión de medios y comunicación. Tras trabajar como reportero y periodista de investigación para medios como de Volkskrant, Brandpunt y NOS op 3, se dedicó plenamente a la fotografía documental y al cine. Su obra, centrada en la relación entre la vida y la muerte en zonas de conflicto, ha sido galardonada con prestigiosos premios, entre ellos el de la Cámara de Plata.
