WE REQUEST THE PERMANENT COMMITTEE OF THE OMC

 

1/ That the OMC call on the World Medical Association General Assembly, to be held in Porto, Portugal, from October 8 to 11 (https://www.wma.net/events-post/wma-general-assembly-porto-2025/ ), to expel the Israeli Medical Association (IMA) for its complicit silence with the apartheid regime throughout Palestine (Israel and the Occupied Territories) and with the Palestinian genocide, in the face of the massacre, including by starvation, of the population in Gaza and the systematic destruction of the health system, with fierce hatred towards health personnel (including ambulances) who have been massacred, detained, imprisoned and tortured with impunity. Israel is in breach of its obligations as a colonial power.

It causes immense harm to the local population, and silence entails approval, a serious issue of unethical and unprofessional behavior. 2/ The OMC should take into account and defend the fact that the Israeli Medical Association's complicit silence toward Israel is a political stance that speaks little to civic, ethical, moral, and professional values ​​(in the sense of Albert Camus, the value of doing what one must in everyday life). This lack of courage affects all health associations in Israel.

Therefore, we urge the establishment of a strategy (following the movement to expel Israel from the World Medical Association, WMA) to pressure Israel's expulsion from the World Health Professions Alliance (WHPA): FDI, World Dental Federation (FDI), International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), International Council of Nurses (ICN), World Physiotherapy, and World Medical Association (WMA). And

 

3/ That the OMC take into account, at the very least, the example of the British Medical Association, which has severed all relations with the Israeli Medical Association due to its lukewarm attitude toward the brutality in Gaza, through motions to:

 

A. Reaffirm its commitment to the protection of healthcare in all conflicts;

 

B. Write to the WMA (World Medical Association), urging consistent condemnation of attacks on healthcare, in general and in Gaza, with explicit mention of the perpetrator (Israel);

 

C. Suspend collaboration with the Israeli Medical Association (AMI) until it affirms its medical neutrality and condemns the attacks on healthcare in Gaza https://www.bma.org.uk/what-we-do/working-internationally/our-international-work/an-update-on-the-bma-s-position-on-the-israel-gaza-conflict

 

For our part, we offer our support to the Permanent Commission of the General Council of Official Medical Associations (CGCOM) and the OMC to collaborate in any activity it deems appropriate to organize.
