Jerusalén, 4 jul (EFE).- La organización israelí Médicos por los Derechos Humanos, Physicians for Human Rights Israel, (PHRI) alertó este sábado de un riesgo «inminente» para la vida del doctor Hussam Abu Safiya, director del hospital Kamal Adwan, en el norte de Gaza, detenido por Israel desde diciembre de 2024.

«Esta es la última vez que me ves… Me trajeron aquí para matarme. No me veo sobreviviendo. Esto es el final», habría dicho el propio Abu Safiya a su abogado, según el testimonio recogido por PHRI.

Según un comunicado de la organización, el abogado de Abu Safiya, Naser Odeh, visitó a su cliente el pasado 2 de julio en el centro de interrogatorios subterráneo de Rakefet, dentro de la prisión de Nitzan (centro de Israel), y constató un «deterioro grave» en su estado físico y psicológico.

Odeh relató, según PHRI, que el detenido llegó al encuentro esposado de pies y manos, custodiado por guardias encapuchados y con heridas recientes en la cabeza, los ojos, las orejas y el cuello, hasta el punto de que le costó reconocerlo. Durante la reunión, según el abogado, Abu Safiya tuvo dificultades para respirar y hablar, mostró gran debilidad y estuvo varias veces a punto de perder el conocimiento.

El detenido dijo a su abogado que, tras la vista de su recurso ante el Tribunal Supremo el pasado 10 de junio, varios guardias entraron en su celda de aislamiento en la prisión de Ganot y le agredieron con un martillo y porras, y que desde su traslado a Rakefet el 24 de junio ha sufrido palizas diarias sin recibir atención médica, según la misma fuente.

Odeh exigió a las autoridades penitenciarias israelíes el traslado inmediato de su cliente y un examen médico urgente e independiente, y advirtió de que la responsabilidad por cualquier agravamiento de su estado recaería sobre el Servicio de Prisiones.

Por su parte, PHRI trasladó su llamamiento a la Fiscalía General, la Comisión de Prisiones, la Defensoría Pública y sendas comisiones parlamentarias, en demanda de una visita de un organismo independiente y un reconocimiento médico urgente.

El director del departamento de presos de PHRI, Naji Abbas, calificó el testimonio de Odeh como «uno de los más perturbadores» desde el inicio de la guerra y alertó de que, de no mediar las autoridades, existe «un riesgo real» de que Abu Safiya «no salga con vida» de la detención.

Abu Safiya, detenido bajo la ley de Combatientes Ilegales sin cargos, vio su detención prorrogada por otros seis meses el pasado 28 de abril por el tribunal de distrito de Beersheba, recurso que el Supremo rechazó el 10 de junio.

PHRI presentó el pasado 30 de abril una petición ante el Supremo para exigir su liberación y la de otros médicos gazatíes detenidos.

El 16 de junio, el Tribunal Supremo de Israel rechazó la apelación de la defensa de Abu Safiya contra la extensión de su detención.

Abu Safiya es el director del Hospital Kamal Adwan, en el norte de Gaza, donde fue detenido por las fuerzas armadas tras un intenso asedio de meses en diciembre de 2024.

De entonces es su imagen caminando entre los escombros, ataviado con una bata blanca, hacia el tanque israelí en el que fue detenido.

The Israeli organization Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHRI) warned this Saturday of an "imminent" risk to the life of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, who has been detained by Israel since December 2024.

"This is the last time you'll see me… They brought me here to kill me. I don't see myself surviving. This is the end," Abu Safiya reportedly told his lawyer, according to testimony collected by PHRI.
 
According to a statement from the organization, Abu Safiya's lawyer, Naser Odeh, visited his client on July 2nd at the Rakefet underground interrogation center, located within Nitzan Prison (central Israel), and observed a "serious deterioration" in his physical and psychological condition.
 
Odeh recounted, according to PHRI, that the detainee arrived at the meeting handcuffed and shackled, guarded by hooded officers, and with recent injuries to his head, eyes, ears, and neck, to the point that he was difficult to recognize. During the meeting, according to the lawyer, Abu Safiya had difficulty breathing and speaking, appeared extremely weak, and nearly lost consciousness several times.
 
The detainee told his lawyer that, following his appeal hearing before the Supreme Court on June 10, several guards entered his solitary confinement cell at Ganot Prison and assaulted him with a hammer and batons.
 
He also stated that since his transfer to Rakefet Prison on June 24, he has suffered daily beatings without receiving medical attention, according to the same source. Odeh demanded that Israeli prison authorities immediately transfer his client and provide him with an urgent, independent medical examination.
 
He warned that the Prison Service would be held responsible for any worsening of his condition. For its part, PHRI (Political Prison Institute) forwarded its appeal to the Attorney General's Office, the Prison Commission, the Public Defender's Office, and relevant parliamentary committees, demanding a visit from an independent body and an urgent medical examination.
 
Naji Abbas, director of the prisoners' department at PHRI, described Odeh's testimony as "one of the most disturbing" since the start of the war and warned that, without intervention from the authorities, there is "a real risk" that Abu Safiya "will not leave detention alive."
 
Abu Safiya, detained under the Illegal Combatants Act without charges, had his detention extended for another six months on April 28 by the Beersheba District Court, an appeal that the Supreme Court rejected on June 10.
On April 30, PHRI filed a petition with the Supreme Court demanding his release and that of other detained Gazan doctors. On June 16, the Israeli Supreme Court rejected Abu Safiya's appeal against the extension of his detention.
 
Abu Safiya is the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, where he was arrested by the armed forces after an intense months-long siege in December 2024. The image from that time shows him walking through the rubble, wearing a white coat, toward the Israeli tank where he was taken into custody.
