Family medicine is too important to be whitewashing Israel.

This is the letter we (Health Workers For Palestine, Spain https://hw4p.es/) have just sent by email (semfyc@semfyc.es) to the Board of Directors of the Spanish Society of Family and Community Medicine. 

We encourage you to write similar letters to the general practitioner/family doctor societies that are part of WONCA. These societies have the power to vote to expel Israel from WONCA. 

This is urgent, as the next WONCA World Congress will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, from September 17 to 21, 2025.

We would like to thank SEMFYC for its concern for the health of the population of Gaza and its healthcare system, expressed through several statements highlighting the damage caused by Israel's policies. As Health Workers for Palestine, Spain (HW4PS),


WE REQUEST THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF SEMFYC:


1/ That SEMFYC demand, at the next Congress in Lisbon (September 17-21, 2025), the expulsion of Israel from WONCA (World Organization of National Colleges, Academies and Academic Associations of General Practitioners/Family Physicians) due to the involvement of its medical societies (including the Israeli Association of Family Physicians, IAFP) in the Palestinian genocide, at least for its silence in the face of the killing, including by starvation, of the population in Gaza and the systematic destruction of the health system in Palestine, with fierce hatred against health personnel (including ambulances) who have been massacred, detained, imprisoned, and tortured with impunity.


2/ That SEMFYC take into account and defend that complicit silence with Israel is a political stance that says little about civic, ethical, moral, and professional courage (in the sense of Albert Camus, the courage to do what must be done in everyday life). And

3/ That SEMFYC promote the signing of the open letter calling for Israel's expulsion from WONCA, coordinated by Global Health BDS for Palestine; Health Workers 4 Palestine - Spain; Health Workers 4 Palestine – Sweden

Esta es la carta que nosotros (Health Workers For Palestine, España https://hw4p.es/) acabamos de enviar por correo electrónico (semfyc@semfyc.es) a la Junta Directiva de la Sociedad Española de Medicina Familiar y Comunitaria. 

Les animamos a que escriban cartas similares a las sociedades de médicos generales/de familia que forman parte de WONCA. Estas sociedades tienen el poder de votar para expulsar a Israel de la WONCA.

Es urgente, ya que el próximo Congreso Mundial de la WONCA se celebrará en Lisboa, Portugal, del 17 al 21 de septiembre de 2025.

Con nuestro agradecimiento a la SEMFYC por su preocupación por la salud de la población de Gaza y de su sistema sanitario, expresado a través de varios comunicados señalando el daño de las políticas de Israel, y como Profesionales de la Sanidad Por Palestina, España (Health Workers For Palestine, Spain, HW4PS)

SOLICITAMOS A LA JUNTA DIRECTIVA DE LA SEMFYC:

1/ Que SEMFYC pida, en el próximo Congreso en Lisboa (17-21 septiembre 2025), la expulsión de Israel de la WONCA (World Organization of National Colleges, Academies and Academic Associations of General Practitioners/Family Physicians) por la implicación de sus sociedades médicas (también la Asociación Israelí de Médicos de Familia, IAFP) en el genocidio palestino, al menos por su silencio ante la matanza, incluso por hambre, de la población en Gaza y por la destrucción sistemática del sistema sanitario en Palestina, con inquina feroz contra el personal de sanidad (ambulancias incluidas) que ha sido masacrado, detenido, encarcelado y torturado impunemente.

2/ Que SEMFYC tenga en cuenta y defienda que el silencio cómplice con Israel es una toma de postura política que dice poco del valor cívico, ético, moral y profesional (en el sentido de Camus, del valor de hacer lo que se debe en la vida cotidiana). Y

3/ Que SEMFYC promueva la firma de la carta abierta pidiendo la expulsión de Israel de la WONCA, coordinada por Global Health BDS for Palestine; Health Workers 4 Palestine - Spain; Health Workers 4 Palestine – Sweden
