Palestinian Heart

Hiba Walid Yassine is a Palestinian graphic designer based in Lebanon. She belongs to Saforeyye village (a small town near Nazareth) from where her grandparents were uprooted and expelled to Lebanon. She graduated in 2015, and made her first design the same year, when a Lebanese newspaper launched a contest to design Palestinian currency.

As a Palestinian artist and refugee that dreams of returning to her homeland, Hiba has dedicated her art to PALESTINE – to its culture and history, to shedding light on its cities, towns and villages in the language of art that everyone can speak and understand. Hiba affirms that Palestine is her homeland that she has never seen, but that it is always in her heart and in art. The Palestinian Heart is a piece in which Hiba illustrates how our hearts beat for Palestine.

She was inspired by an Arabic verse that says: “My homeland is the right side of my heart.” This heart carries Palestinian embroidery on each section and the map of Palestine in the middle.

Hiba Walid Yassine es una diseñadora gráfica palestina radicada en Líbano. Es originaria de Saforeyye (un pequeño pueblo cerca de Nazaret), de donde sus abuelos fueron desarraigados y expulsados ​​a Líbano. Se graduó en 2015 y ese mismo año realizó su primer diseño, cuando un periódico libanés lanzó un concurso para diseñar moneda palestina.

Como artista palestina y refugiada que sueña con regresar a su patria, Hiba ha dedicado su arte a Palestina: a su cultura e historia, a visibilizar sus ciudades, pueblos y aldeas a través del lenguaje artístico, accesible para todos. Hiba afirma que Palestina es su patria, una patria que nunca ha visto, pero que siempre lleva en el corazón y en su arte.

Corazón Palestino es una obra en la que Hiba ilustra cómo nuestros corazones laten por Palestina. Se inspiró en un verso árabe que dice: «Mi patria es el lado derecho de mi corazón». Este corazón lleva bordados palestinos en cada sección y el mapa de Palestina en el centro.
